OUR DISTRICT

Stirling and Trossachs District is one of four Districts in Forth Region and covers the same geographical area as Stirling District Council. The others are Falkirk, Clackmannanshire and West Lothian. There are several Scout campsites across the region.

Invertrossachs, on the south shore of Loch Vennachar, is the Stirling and Trossachs District campsite.

More information can be found on the District website. Other local sites include Barrwood Campsite, The Craigs Campsite , Auchengillan Outdoor Centre and Lochearnhead Scout Station.

During the year a number of events and activities may be run in the District and Region. For example water activities events for Cubs, Scouts or Explorers, and Beaver fun days. The young people have a variety of opportunities outside their own Section, and of course adults get involved too!

Young People in the District

The 2022 census showed that there were nearly 1200 young people and just over 350 adults in the District and we are continuing to grow. Young people in the District are members of Squirrel Scout Dreys, (aged 4-6 years) Beaver Scout Colonies (aged 6-8 years), Cub Scout Packs (aged 8-10 ½ years), Scout Troops (aged 10 ½-14 years), Explorer Scout Units (aged 14-18 years) and the Scout Network (aged 18-25 years).

Scout Groups

Squirrel Dreys, Beaver Scout Colonies, Cub Scout Packs and Scout Troops are organised into Scout Groups, of which there are thirteen currently active in the District. Explorer Scout Young Leaders may work in these Groups. The Groups are based in Stirling city, Bridge of Allan, Doune, Dunblane, Callander. Killin, Kippen, Balfron, Killearn, Drymen and Strathblane.

Explorer Scout Units

Explorer Scouting is organised at District level, and is managed by the District Explorer Scout Commissioners.

There are over 120 Explorer Scouts in the District, who attend one of five Explorer Scout Units or Young Leader Units. The nearest to Dunblane are:

Milvus, Dunblane Scout Hall; Wallace, Beechwood Scout Centre, Stirling; Caisteal, Trinity Church Hall, Stirling; Young Leader Unit, Beechwood Scout Hall, Stirling

For more information about the Young Leader (YL) Scheme, take a look at the document in the Resources / Policies and documents section of the District website.

Scout Network

Our Explorer Scouts move on to the Scout Network at the age of 18. At 18 they may also take on an adult appointment. All adult leaders between the ages of 18 and 25 become members of the Scout Network automatically. The contact for Scout Network is the District Scout Network Commissioner.

Contact details for Groups, Units and the Network can be found on the District website.
